This course will expose the students to the basic principles of biomedical instrumentation and measurements employed in the health care industry. Emphasis will be placed on how the biological signals of human body can be acquired and used in a successful manner. This course is part 1 of a two-part course in biomedical instrumentation and will explore the operation and application of a range of medical equipment dealing with instrumentation techniques for measuring common physiological signals, including bioelectric and biochemical sensors biostimulation, electronic circuit design issues, digital signal acquisition, electrical safety, signal conditioning and protection against noise. The practical work required in the use, servicing and maintenance of these instruments/equipment will be explored in ECNG2005 Laboratory and Project III.
