This course examines the theory, characteristics, construction, operation and application of electromechanical energy conversion systems (electrical machines). It begins with a review of the fundamentals of circuit theory and electromagnetics and then introduces the concept of electromechanical energy conversion and the fundamentals of electric machines. It includes systematic development of models for electrical machines based upon established principles and basic laws. The operational principle of transformers and direct current (DC) electrical machines are covered in this course. Both single-phase and three-phase transformers are analyzed in detail and considers magnetic circuit design, parallel operation, connection diagrams, design, construction and application. The construction, principle of operation, starting, braking and speed control methods, and applications of DC machines (generators and motors) are also discussed. Read more
